Scholarships are chosen each year by instructor recommendations. Students are evaluated on their level of commitment, determination, respect of instructors and peers, improvement in dance ability and overall love of dance.
Bonnie Siscoe-Padgett “Outstanding Commitment to Dance” Scholarship
Bonnie Siscoe was the owner/director of Bonnie Siscoe School of Dance for 34 years. This Scholarship is in honor of her long and illustrious career as a teacher and mentor for thousands of young dancers.
Dreyer “Live to Dance” Memorial Scholarship
Named for Amy Blake’s parents, Sara Ann and M.L. Dreyer, who passed away in 1996 and 2003. This scholarship is sponsored by Marty and Shelly Power. Shelly Power was Amy Blake’s teacher and is still her mentor, and currently the Associate Director of the Houston Ballet Academy. This scholarship honors Amy’s parents and their commitment, love, and support of their daughter and her dream to become a professional dancer and studio owner.
Dwight Shelton Scholarship
Dwight Shelton was on staff at Amy Blake’s Academy of Dance for several years and everyone at the studio was touched deeply by him and his artistic legacy. Dwight was a native Houstonian who began dancing at the age of 7. His training included Houston Ballet Academy, Madame Tatiana Semenova, and American Ballet Theater School in New York City. He graduated from the Professional Children’s School in New York City. He danced internationally with Harkness Ballet of New York, Dennis Wayne Dancers, and was a Principal dancer with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens of Montreal, just to name a few.
